As we start to move into the Autumn months attention turns to ‘Tupping Time’, aka breeding season for the sheep. Most of the sheep are in flocks that relate to when they lambed or their condition but we are starting to sort them into group according to which Ram they will be put with. All of the stock now has mineral buckets in their fields to give their health an extra boost and access to some lovely late summer grass.
The rams continue to spend most of their time enjoying the Devon sunshine with a snooze on the banks of their meadow, saving their energy for the job ahead!!
We are planning for lambing to be slightly later for Spring 2022 to allow for the arrival of our newest mini farmer, with Rams expected to go in at the end of the first week of November.
The weekend for the Tups to go in is also the weekend of Stitch Fest 2021. In its 5th Year, the event which was previously spread across Totnes, will now be held under one roof at Newton Abbot Race Course. It is excellent to see the event growing and whilst we will miss the charm of Totnes as a backdrop hopefully stallholders and visitors alike will find the new venue much easier to access.
It is our first year as stallholders at the event and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone and giving you all the opportunity to see all of our gorgeous yarns in person – to feel the different bases and see the colours. Although we are into our second year of our larger range of bases this will actually be the first time that we have had them at an in-person event and you have been able to feel them and the differences between them.
The event is jam packed with different stallholders including Knitwear designers, knitting, crochet, felting and spinning equipment and accessories, textile artists, ceramics and of course yarn. Outside there will be a covered area dedicated to raw fleeces including some from The Rushlade Wool Company. The Workshop timetable for the event is available online (Details below) with courses including needle felting, solar dyeing, lace knitting, tapestry weaving and much much more!
